On Sunday the 6th of October, the Phoenix Suns started their preseason. They went over to take on the LA Lakers. The Suns won 116 to 112, coming back from a 16-point deficit during the game. This was a solid start for the Suns with many positives. The bench played very well, and the team, in general, shook off the rust from the off-season. The defence improved as the game went on, and the 2 players from the recent draft Ryan and Oso were amongst the Suns best. The Suns were expected to shoot more 3’s, and they did shoot 39 attempts for the game at 41%. As expected, the turnovers were a little high 18 for the game. We should see that come down with the players getting more familiar with each other.
The next game is on the 8th of October when the Suns go to Detroit to take on the Pistons. The Suns won this game 105 to 97. The scores don’t indicate the true reflection of the game. The Suns were really never in doubt and were another game with a lot of positives. The big 3 were looking like the players we know and love. The turnovers went down from 18 to 13. The 2 rookies, Oso and Ryan, are looking like 2 of the biggest steals in the draft. The only negative was Damian Lee heading to the locker room with a leg injury. The reports so far are that it was minor and could possibly play in the rematch against Detroit in 3 days’ time.
The Detroit Pistons has their rematch at Phoenix in Phoenix on the 11th of October. The game was the opposite of the previous game. The Pistons won 109 to 91. The Suns’ defence was poor to start. The Pistons scored 40 points in the first quarter and beat the Suns in most categories.
In conclusion, there were more positives than negatives, and the Suns are progressing nicely with a new system and new players.
