In the off-season, Josh signed a 2-year deal for 16 million dollars with the Phoenix Suns. The second year is a team option. This was considered by many as a pay increase that far outweighs the value of what Josh can produce on the court. Was this just a thank you for his last 2 years with the Suns, or does the Suns have something else in mind?
Josh is athletic, and you can argue the best POA defender on the Suns roster. Josh will dive for loose balls and will attack the boards, especially on the offensive end. Josh defensive rating last year was 114.3, which is just slightly better than the NBA average.
Josh is a willing shooter, but that isn’t his game. Josh played 60 games for the Suns last season. Josh’s stat line is 41/30/74. Which meant other teams would sag off and let Josh shoot the 3 so they could double team better offensive players on the Suns roster.
So, was this an upgraded contract on what Josh did last season? In my opinion, it was done so they could trade Josh more easily in the season. Josh can’t be traded until December 15. There will be many trade rumours who will trade for Josh in the coming weeks and months.
Let me throw my hat into the ring. For me, I can see a straight trade of Josh Okogie going to OKC for Kenrich Williams. Let me know if Josh will stay with the Suns? Or will Josh be traded, and for who? Next week will be another article about a Suns player resigning a strange contract
