Wow man, Mat Ishbia does not mess around.

Every single Phoenix Suns fan in the world, had a sour taste in their mouth, with the way our season ended. This was not the way the story was meant to play out.

We have all been very critical of Coach Vogel and his direction of this team. He didn’t live up to our expectations. A defensive minded coach with an offensive based line up. Would it work. No, it didn’t in my opinion. Or did it?

The 2022-2023 Season under Coach Monty Williams had our team at a Defensive rating of 112.3. 9th overall. The 2023-2024 Season under Coach Frank Vogel had our team at a Defensive rating of 113.7. 8th overall.

Was Vogel that bad of a defensive coach? No, but maybe. Granted there had been some significant moves/changes on the Suns roster since the changing of coaches but, the numbers speak for themselves. It just sure as hell did not look that way when we were watching. Bad rotations, questionable plays, looking absolutely lost at times, and a basic lack of respect from the team seemed to be Coach Vogel’s down fall.

However, a new dawn is rising in Arizona. We welcome a new beginning. Coach Mike Budenholzer,

A 4x NBA Championship Assistant Coach, 2x NBA Coach of the year, and an NBA Championship Coach.

A guy who spent 17 years as an Assistant coach under Gregg Popovich. Coach Freakin’ Pop! One of the greatest coaches of all time. A Coach in in my opinion that has had a lot of success blending offence and defence together. Coach Budenholzer is that guy. He can manage players, can manage egos, and is all about accountability. This is what we’re looking for in a head coach. Someone that can take control of the locker room, the egos (we all have them), take control of the floor, and put the right people in the right places at the right time. We are just waiting to see on what assistant coaching staff pieces we can put around him to help.

I don’t want to be too harsh against Coach Frank Vogel, he had his opportunity it didn’t work out. It wasn’t right for this team at the time. Time, Space & Information (Thank you Pat Burke) However we need to move on, we need to restructure. The old way wasn’t working. Time for a rebirth.

A week ago, I was almost done. I did not see a future for this current team. All the rumours, all the talk, all the guys who said they knew this and that. I just didn’t care anymore. Was almost done with this team. Had enough with this podcasting lifestyle (Be sure to check out Suns Planet Podcast on YouTube/Spotify & @SunsPlanetPod on Twitter), fed up with writing articles. What was the point? Why put us through this pain anymore?

30+ years’ worth of Love and dedication is damn why!

I feel a lot better now that this move has happened. I have a renewed sense of hope, an exciting feeling I haven’t felt since the start of 2021.

I think we can all agree Coach Budz is going to be an improvement.

He grew up in Arizona. The Suns inspired him to get into Basketball. Could this be the Coach to take us to the promise land? Only time will tell.

Massive props to Mat Ishbia & James Jones for not wasting anytime.

Till Next time Suns Fans
